Wapsi-Great Western Line Trail

Trailhead Welcome Center: 110 East Main Street (U.S. Hwy #9)

“As you ride this trail, you are in the neighborhood of Pretty Boy Floyd’s hideout, the ghost town of Acme where railroad gangs competed to finish the rail line, and the ghost town of Bailey set deep in the woods near a stage coach stop.

In today’s landscape near the Minnesota/Iowa border, huge wind turbines dominate over the rural Amish windmills.  This is rustic Iowa countryside with mostly level grades and enjoyable nooks and crannies to explore.  Lake Hendricks at Riceville is a beautiful retreat for campers and has amenities of showers and electricity.  The trail also winds through Pinicon Alders Woods, a 240 acre upland timber that is home to an abundant trout stream.

This area is our home.  This is our trail.  We can’t wait to share it with you!”
